NWU Participates in the 13th Global Confucius Institute Conference
The 13th Global Confucius Institute Conference was held in Chengdu on Dec.4-5. Chen Baosheng, the Minister of Education and Vice Chair of the Council of Confucius Institute Headquarters presided over the opening ceremony of the conference with“Reform and Innovation for Development, Joint Efforts for a Bright Future”as its theme. Sun Chunlan, Vice Premier of the State Council and Chairman of the Council of Confucius Institute Headquarters attended the conference and delivered a speech. Jia Mingde, deputy secretary of the Party Committee, NWU and Vice president attended the conference with the head of related projects from the International Affair Office. The conference was attended by more than 1,500 delegates from 154 countries and regions.
During the conference, Jia Mingde conducted extensive exchanges on the development of the Confucius Institutes, NWU with representatives from both the Chinese and foreign hosting sides. Discussions were made on the arrangement of next year's council meeting at the Confucius Institute at Northwest Nazarene University, US and at the Confucius Institute at the National University of Braka, Philippines. Further discussions were made on the preparations for the Northwest Nazarene University orchestra to perform on the 2019 NWU Graduation Concert. In the meeting, in-depth exchanges on future development of the Confucius Institute with characteristics and the promotion of the cooperation between the two universities utilizing the Confucius Institute as a platform were explored.
Sun Chunlan said that with the joint effort of both sides, the teaching quality of Confucius Institutes have improved steadily and have made proactive contribution to meet the needs of Chinese language study and trade cooperation. She also gave suggestions on the future development of Confucius Institutes including teaching methods renovation, improving staff development and establishing a sound quality evaluation system. Also by organizing diversified cultural activities, Confucius Institute can act as a cultural messenger to enhance friendship and building a community with a shared future for humanity.
Up to now, there are 548 Confucius Institutes, 1,193 Confucius Classrooms and 5,665 teaching points locating in 154 countries and regions around the world. NWU has established two Confucius Institutes: The Confucius Institute at Northwest Nazarene University, US and the Confucius Institute at the National University of Braka, Philippines.
