PAU Municipal Government Delegation of France Visits Northwest University
André LESTORTE, Deputy Mayor of Pau with a delegation of 6, accompanied by director of International Affairs Office of Xi’an Municipal People’s Government, visited Northwest University on May 26th. Guo Lihong, president of NWU and directors of Office of International Affairs and Alliance Francaise Xi’an attended the meeting. The main purpose of the delegation is to negotiate with matters concerned with jointly setting up Confucius Institute between NWU and Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour. Andre Lesdoyle said thatPau, as the provincial capital of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, hosts no Confucius Institute. Université de Pau et des Pays de l'Adour has no Chinese Department. It is high time to establish Confucious Institute, with the growing demand of Chinese learning in and aroundPau. Guo Lihong mentioned thatXi’anandPauare twin cities, and each university is of great importance to its city. Moreover, the two universities share similarities in the setting of academic disciplines. Now NWU is able to establish links withPauthrough Alliance Francaise. When the Confucius Institute is established, both sides will further promote mutual exchanges on language and culture to achieve win-win cooperation on discipline development. After the meeting, delegation members had a thorough discussion with directors of Office of International Affairs and Alliance Francaise on Confucius Institute.
