NWU President Guo Lihong Visited the US

NWU president Guo Lihong, along with heads from President Office, Academic Affairs Office, Graduate School and International Affairs Office, visited the US from November 14th to 21st. During the visit, Guo Lihong and the delegation attended the opening ceremony of Confucius Institute jointly built by NWU and Northwest Nazarene University. NNU President Joel Pearsall introduced the history of the university and its present situation on faculty and students as well as its local influence. He also retrospected the friendly cooperation between the two universities since 2009. Guo Lihong, in his speech, mentioned that he hoped this Confucius Institute would be an important platform for communication and cooperation between the two universities and make more contributions to the popularization of Chinese language and Chinese culture. He also mentioned that NWU will offer preeminent teaching resource and other substantial help for Confucius Institute and NNU’s Chinese major students. Two presidents inaugurated the Confucius Institute together, signed the Implementation Agreement and then had an in-depth conversation on issues such as board member composition and responsibility of the Confucius Institute Council, future development of the institute and cooperation between the two universities. After the ceremony, Guo Lihong played ping-pong with American students in a free but warm atmosphere. During their visit at State University of New York at Stony Brook and Central Connecticut State University, the delegation made a number of substantial consensuses on student’s non-degree exchanges and degree programs, staff visit and scientific research cooperation with the partner universities, and planned to implement these projects step by step. The delegation had an informal conversation with NWU visiting scholars and student representatives, listening to their work, study and life abroad and also their suggestions to the development of NWU. They also met alumni including diplomatic officer of the United States Department Gong Li, two business elites Zhang Jian and Han Leng, talking about issues such as the development of alumni association, attracting overseas alumni back to work at NWU, setting up scholarship and supporting the development of NWU. This short visit is busy and fruitful. It plays an important role in the establishment of Confucian Institute abroad, deepening the cooperation and communication between NWU and US universities and combining the strength of alumni to promote the development of NWU.
