Qiao Xueguang

Qiao Xueguang, born inJiaxian County,ShaanxiProvince in May 1955, CPC member, graduated from the Physics Department of Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1982, and obtained his PhD in Physics from the Xi’an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics, CAS (ChineseAcademyof Science) in Oct., 1998.

Before 2008, Qiao served in the Xi’an Petroleum Institute (XPI) successively as Deputy Director of Student Affairs Office, Director of the general office of the CPC (Communist Party of China) XPI Committee, Vice President of XPI, and Secretary of the CPC XPI Committee. In June 2008, he was appointed President of NWU, and since Dec., 2010, he has been Secretary of the CPC NWU Committee. Meanwhile, he has published over 20 academic papers on the management of Chinese higher education respectively in Guangming Daily (China), Shaanxi Daily, Journal of Chinese Higher Education and Science Times.

Professor Qiao is a scholar with high achievements. Since the 10th Five-Year Plan, he has chaired 3 projects sponsored by the 863 Program, 4 projects sponsored by the National Science Foundation and over 20 projects sponsored respectively by the Ministry of Education, the Shaanxi Provincial Government, the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), and so forth. Between 1999 and 2000, he taught and conducted research as a visiting scholar in MIT, USA, where he focused his academic efforts upon Optoelectronic technology, Optical fiber communication and sensing, Ray logging in oil & gas fields, Geophysical prospecting and Oil & gas pipeline detection. Over the years, he published more than 160 academic papers in journals both at home and abroad, such as Journal of Physics, SPIE and Journal of Optics, 62 of which are included respectively by SCI, EI, ISTP, and so on. Also he has gained 9 national patents, including 7 National Invention Patents.

Qiao’s extraordinary academic achievements have earned him many honors and titles. He has been a Distinguished Teacher, an Advanced Worker and a Shaanxi Provincial Expert with Outstanding Contributions, and was recognized by the 2005 Shaanxi Science & Technology Award (1st Prize), the 2007 State Technological Invention Award (2nd prize) and the 2008 National Labor Award. In addition, he is now part-time Chairman of the Academic Committees of the Shaanxi Key Laboratory for Photo-Electric Oil-Well Logging (Xi’an Petroleum Institute), the Shaanxi Key Laboratory for Optical Information Technology (Northwestern Polytechnical University), and the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education for Photo-Electric Logging and Detecting of Oil & Gas-Wells (Xi’an Petroleum Institute).
