NWU Football Team Went to Russia for Friendly Match
From September 13th to 19th, 16 football players and 4 teachers from NWU attended the first Chinese and Russian intercollegiate friendly football match held in Saratov, Russia. The match was initiated and hosted by Russian Football Federation of College Students, and undertaken by Saratov State University. It was the first time for NWU’s sports delegation to attend the international competition.
NWU football team played three games with Xi’an International Studies University, University of Tambov, and Saratov State University successively overcoming difficulties of jet lag, climate and other inconveniences. They fought hard in the matches and won honor for the NWU.
NWU delegation received a warm welcome during its visit to Russia. Nicola Korolev, head of Eastern Sports Bureau affiliated with Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, Andres Stukrov and Yuri Bujersey, chairman and vice-chairman of the College Football Association of Russian Football Association, had a discussion with delegations from NWU and Xi’an International University. A grand opening ceremony was held before the match. Governor of Saratov state Valery V Rodyef and president of Saratov State University Alexei Chumachenko attended the ceremony. On behalf of the Chinese universities presented at the ceremony, head of NWU’s delegation expressed appreciation to the Russian side for its careful organization and warm reception.
The friendly football match between Russian and Chinese college students has greatly promoted the inheritance of sportsmanship in both countries, deepened exchanges between the youths, strengthened the cooperation between universities, and consolidated the friendship between Russian and Chinese people.
