On June 9, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British organization specializing in education and studying abroad, released the latest World Universities Rankings 2022. Featuring 1,300 universities from around the world, this year's university rankings are QS’s largest ever. 92 Chinese universities were included in the list, with 58 of them from Chinese mainland, 7 from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, 2 from Macau Special Administrative Region, and 25 from Taiwan region.
Northwest University is on the list for two years in a row, ranking No.751-800 among the whole list and No.43 among all Chinese academic institutions this year. It is also the third best university in Shaanxi Province.
As one of the four globally-recognised rankings regarding top world universities, QS is the world’s most popular source of comparative data about university performance. The first round of “Double First-Class” Evaluation in China used QS rankings as a major reference indicator for it could reveal the soft power and international influence of universities on the list. The rankings are based on six indicators, including academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), citations per faculty (20%), student-to-faculty ratio (20%) and international student and faculty ratio (5%).
