On July 28th, the “2023 Northwest University Summer Chinese Language Teacher Training Program for French Educators” was successfully concluded with a closing ceremony. The seminar was co-organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education, hosted by Northwest University, and co-sponsored by the French Association for Chinese Language Teaching. Eighteen frontline Chinese language teachers from various regions of France participated in the graduation ceremony and received their completion certificates.
The opening ceremony for this session of the Summer Chinese Language Teacher Training Program for French Educators took place on July 17th at the Taibai campus of NWU. Since 2019, NWU has been organizing summer Chinese language teacher training programs for educators from France. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the program was shifted online. This year marks the fourth successful year of the program. The School of International Education, responsible for organizing and implementing the program, invited experts from Beijing Language and Culture University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shaanxi Normal University, and our university to provide training. The training focused on enhancing the competencies of overseas local Chinese language teachers, covering aspects such as Chinese language knowledge, classroom teaching design and assessment, Chinese language teaching skills, and literary culture. Cultural experience courses on traditional Chinese medicine, tea art, and Tai Chi fan were also arranged for the teachers.
The French educators expressed their satisfaction with the rich content and engaging courses of the training program. The combination of Xi’an’s profound traditional culture and modern development left a deep impression, allowing them to truly experience the charm of China’s development. They found the experience to be extremely rewarding and believed that the training activities would greatly benefit their future endeavors in teaching Chinese language and culture in France.
