NWU hosts the 2023 International Symposium on Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Conservation of the Silk Road

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road initiative, the 2023 International Symposium on Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Conservation of the Silk Road was held in Xian and organized by Northwest University. More than 100 experts and scholars from Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, UK, Italy, Serbia and relevant Chinese universities and research institutions attended the meeting.

At the opening ceremony, representatives from China, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Iran jointly launched the Silk Road Archaeology Website. Presented in Chinese, English and Russian, the website aims to build an international communication platform in the field of archaeology and cultural heritage conservation in countries along the Silk Road. The website which was established by the Collaborative Research Center for Archaeology of the Silk Roads in cooperation with the new media platform of Shaanxi Daily,integrating the resources and platforms of both sides.

This symposium focuses on the hot topics in the field of archaeology and cultural heritage conservation, and the participating scholars will carry out exchanges and discussions on the archaeological study of ancient agricultural and nomadic civilizations in Eurasia, and the study of cultural heritage on the Silk Road, among other topics. The symposium is organized by the Collaborative Research Center for Archaeology of the Silk Roads and co-organized by the Shaanxi Academy of Archaeology (Shaanxi Archaeological Museum), Xian Municipal Academy of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Conservation, ICOMOS International Conservation Centre in Xian, and the School of Cultural Heritage of Northwest University.
