Zhao Yan, Mayor of Saratoga, California, USA, visited her alma mater

On the afternoon of October 31st, Ms. Zhao Yan, an alumnus of the School of Physics the Class of '83, a member of the NWU North American Alumni Association, and the current mayor of Saratoga, California, USA, paid a visit to her alma mater. Ms. Zhao recalled the wonderful experience of studying at Northwest University and introduced the landscape and development of Saratoga. She hoped to further deepen the ties with her alma mater and contribute to the friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two cities and countries.

Afterwards, Zhao Yan delivered a speech entitled “From Northwest University in China to the Mayor of Saratoga, USA”, reviewing in detail her extraordinary journey from studying at Northwest University, to studying in the United States, to joining the U.S. semiconductor industry, and finally entering the political arena.

Zhao Yan is an alumna of the Class of '83 from the School of Physics at Northwest University, then she studied at the University of California, Berkeley and Santa Clara University, she has more than 20 years of experience in the semiconductor industry after graduation. She has been actively involved in public affairs and concerned about the welfare of the people. She is the first Chinese-American female city councilor and mayor of Saratoga, California, from mainland China, and has visited China many times since she took office, contributing to the promotion of various exchanges between the U.S. and China.
