From November 15 to 17, the 2024 World Chinese Language Conference was held in Beijing, hosted by the Ministry of Education, and co-organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, the Chinese International Education Foundation and the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching. More than 2,000 government officials, school principals, experts and scholars, teacher and student representatives, and envoys from over 160 countries and regions attended the conference. Cao Rong, Vice President of Northwest University, leaders of Bulacan State University of the Philippines, Rayongwittayakom School of Thailand and Chinese and foreign directors of Confucius Institutes (Classroom) were invited to attend the conference, accompanied by the deputy director of the Office of International Cooperation.
President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to the 2024 World Chinese Language Congress and congratulated the Confucius Institute on its 20th anniversary. Vice President Han Zheng attended the opening ceremony of the Conference, read out the congratulatory letter and delivered a speech. The Conference focused on the construction of international Chinese language education system, the research and development and application of international Chinese language education standards, and the exchange of foreign language policies among countries.
After the meeting, Cao Rong exchanged ideas with the representatives of Bulacan State University of the Philippines, Rayongwittayakom School of Thailand and the Chinese and foreign leaders of Confucius Institutes (Classroom) to discuss the development path of the Confucius Institutes (Classroom) with distinctive features, and to strengthen the foundation for the healthy development of the Confucius Institutes (Classroom).
