Northwest University-Yulin Science and Innovation Centre for Carbon Neutrality Launches

On May 9, the signing ceremony of an agreement between Yulin Municipal Government and Northwest University on jointly building Northwest University- Yulin Science and Innovation Centre for Carbon Neutrality took place in the city of Yulin of Shaanxi Province. The ceremony also marked the launch of Northwest University- Yulin Institute of Carbon Neutrality. International CCS Knowledge Centre from Canada, University of Regina from Canada, Japan CCS Co., Ltd., , Research Institutes of Innovative Technology for Earth from Japan, along with other institutes and corporates expressed their congratulations.

Northwest University- Yulin Science and Innovation Centre for Carbon Neutrality is committed to fostering leading talent, bolstering scientific research, translating research outcomes into practice, driving industrial progress and developing public outreach programs. The centre’s vision is to build itself into a comprehensive innovation platform for carbon neutrality studies supported by synergy between Northwest University and the local government of Yulin.

       Northwest University- Yulin Institute of Carbon Neutrality is China’s first research institute of carbon neutrality studies aiming to nurture talent in this field. In accordance of China’s goal of peaking carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060, the institute aims to advance the application of carbon neutrality research and to train future talent with a global view and inter-disciplinary background. Its research focuses around seven major carbon neutrality issues including carbon dioxide capture, utility and storage (CCUS), cleaner fossil fuels, renewable energy, hydro-energy, energy storage, internet of energy, carbon economy and policy studies. The institute currently offers graduate programs and part-time programs and can house 800 to 1,000 scientific personnel at the initial stage. Its next step is to launch undergraduate programs and to support 3,000 on-site researchers.
