Northwest University celebrates launch of Research Centre for Ecological Environment Protection of Qinling Mountains

Northwest University (NWU) and Huyi District People's Government in Xi’an launched NWU-Huyi Research Centre for Ecological Environment Protection of Qinling Mountains, NWU-Huyi Centre for Qinling Mountains Studies, NWU Qinling Mountains Institute (Taiping Base), and NWU Qinling Mountains Institute (Lao Valley Base) at a ceremony at Huyi District in Xi’an on July 14. Yang Zhanhai, deputy district mayor of Huyi District, and Chang Jiang, vice president of NWU, on behalf of Huyi District and NWU respectively, signed the Framework Agreement on the Establishment of NWU-Huyi Research Centre for Ecological Environment Protection of Qinling Mountains.


Zhang Guowei, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, head of Qinling Research Institute of NWU, and professor of Department of Geology at NWU, Wang Yajie, secretary of the NWU’ s Party committee, and Chang Jiang, vice president of NWU, were invited to attend the ceremony.


These centres will embark on a new journey of exploring cooperation between NWU and Huyi District on major scientific issues of ecological environmental protection in Qinling Mountains, important ecological restoration projects and technologies, research and observation of the evolution of ecological environment in Qinling Mountains, and development and use of biodiversity. The centres will also conduct research on major topics of Qinling Mountains protection, provide expertise for government’s decision-making, and launch training programmes. The centres aim to build a collaborative research and exchange platform, provide scientific and intellectual support to the protection of Qinling Mountains, and promote high-quality socio- and economic development of Huyi District.
