NWU Alumnus Prof. Liu Maili elected academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences

On Nov 18, 2021, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) released the results of the 2021 academician election. Professor Liu Maili, Class of 1978 graduate of Northwest University’s (NWU) Department of Chemistry, was elected as the new academician of CAS. To date, 33 NWU alumni are academicians of CAS or Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and 10 are academicians of international academic organizations.


According to the shortlist, Wang Yueng, Distinguished Professor of NWU and researcher from Institute of Physics of CAS, was elected as the academician of CAS.

Born in December 1958, Professor Liu Maili received his bachelor degree from NWU’s Department of Chemistry in 1982 and is the researcher and PhD supervisor in Innovation Academy for Precision Measurement Science and Technology of CAS. He focuses his research on principles of and new approaches to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy analysis, and new the application of NMR in protein research.
