On February 14, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly issued the list of the second round of “Double First-Class” universities and disciplines. Archaeology and Geology of NWU were successfully selected as the new round of “Double First-Class” construction disciplines. Archaeology is the only new construction discipline in Shaanxi province, and NWU has successfully achieved the goal of “keeping one and fighting for two” in the “Double First-Class” initiative project.
The construction of world first-class universities and disciplines (referred to as “Double First-Class” Initiative Project) is of great significance to improve the comprehensive strength of higher education, support the innovation-driven development strategy and serve the high-quality development of economy and society.
Based on the monitoring data of first round and effectiveness evaluation, the national strategic areas of urgent need during the 14th Five-Year Plan period determined by the Party Central Committee and the State Council and the principle of "overall stability, optimization and adjustment", the three ministries and commissions determined the scope of new construction universities and disciplines after the study and research of the expert committee of "Double First Class" Initiative Project. The announced list contains 147 universities, 59 basic disciplines including mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology,etc, 180 engineering disciplines and 92 philosophical and social science disciplines.
