Recently, Clarivate Analytics updated the latest data of March 2022 Essential Science Indicators database. The disciplines Biology and Biochemistry of NWU ranked the global top 1% for the first time after Earth Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Agricultural Science, Plant and Animal Science, and Environment/Ecology. The number of global top 1% disciplines of NWU increases from 7 to 10. NWU is now ranking as a tied 43rd among the universities on the number of shortlisted disciplines in mainland China.
The essential science indicators database, is divided into 22 disciplines, which is an econometric analysis database based on more than 10 million records from more than 12,000 academic journals worldwide collected by Clarivate Analytic’s Web of Science. It is an important tool for measuring scientific research performance, tracking scientific trends, and evaluating the international academic level and influence of national/regional universities and academic institutions.
NWU insists on the goal of constructing the university as world-class with Chinese characteristics, implements the project of "high-quality development of disciplines", optimizes the layout of disciplines, accelerates the internal construction of disciplines, and builds a good discipline ecology. Meanwhile, NWU actively benchmarks itself against the global first-class higher learning institutes, deepens the cooperation with authoritative third-party institutions at home and abroad, and explores a diversified and multi-dimensional discipline evaluation model so as to continue to increase the influence and competitiveness of the university at home and abroad.
