Northwest University - Xiao Tiancun Oxford Visiting Fund Signing Ceremony

On 7th of July, the 100-day countdown towards the 120th anniversary of the university, the signing ceremony of the Northwest University - Xiao Tiancun Oxford Visiting Fund was held at the Chang'an campus of NWU. President Guo Lihong signed the MOU with Dr. Xiao Tiancun, President of NWU UK Alumni Association and Senior Research Fellow of the Oxford University, and seven representatives of the UK Alumni Association attended the ceremony online.

Xiao Tiancun reviewed on his schooling experience at Northwest University and expressed his gratitude to his alma mater for its training and long-term support. He said that the simple and solid learning style of his alma mater has benefited the students of NWU and nurtured a number of excellent graduates. He hopes to make his own contribution to the internationalization of NWU and the development of the alumni by creating a fund with NWU on the occasion of its 120th anniversary.

In the communication session, the participating leaders of relevant faculties and departments introduced the current situation of internationalization in their respective faculties and raised their needs for cooperation with the UK universities through the UK Alumni Association. The alumni expressed their willingness to play a bridging and linking role for their alma mater in introducing overseas talents, recruiting international students and building a platform for scientific cooperation.


The signing ceremony is one of the series of activities for the 120 Years of Northwest University, Building the Future celebration, and is also one of the innovative initiatives of NWU to implement the Student Global Competitiveness Project. The Northwest University - Xiao Tiancun Oxford Visiting Fund is jointly funded by Northwest University and Dr. Xiao Tiancun, with the aim of improving the quality of NWUs talent training and enhancing the global competitiveness of students. Each year, the fund will support 20 students with outstanding academic performance to attend a 3-4 week study visit to Oxford University and other renowned universities, research institutions and enterprises in the UK.
