Recently, Clarivate Analytics updated the latest data of Basic Science Indicators database in March 2023. For the first time, the social sciences general has entered the top 1% of the global disciplines, and the number of NWU’s global top 1% disciplines has increased to 11, including earth sciences, chemistry, materials science, engineering, clinical medicine, pharmacology and toxicology, agricultural sciences, plant and animal sciences, environment/ecology, biology and biochemistry, and social sciences general.
The Basic Science Indicators database, divided into 22 discipline areas, is an econometric analysis database based on more than 10 million records from more than 12,000 academic journals around the world included in Web of Science of Clarivate Analytics. It is one of the important index tools for measuring scientific research performance, tracking scientific trends, and evaluating the international academic level and influence of national/regional universities and academic institutions.
During the “14th Five-Year Plan period”, NWU insisted on the goal of “Chinese characteristics, world-class”, implemented the project of “high-quality development of disciplines”, optimized the layout of disciplines, accelerated the connotation construction of disciplines, and created a good discipline ecology; while insisting on the development with characteristics, NWU took the initiative to benchmark world-class, deepened exchanges and cooperation, and continued to enhance the academic influence and competitiveness of the university.
