On May 12th, a symposium on the study of the history of West Asia and North Africa in the context of regional country studies and the book launch of the General History of the Arab Countries in Africa (8 volumes) was held in Beijing, jointly sponsored by the Commercial Press, the Institute of Regional and Country Studies and the Institute Middle East Studies of Northwest University.
The General History of the Arab Countries in Africa was premiered during the symposium. The book is the final result of a major project of the National Social Science Foundation hosted by Prof. Wang Tiezheng of our university. It consists of 8 volumes, including: History of Egypt, History of Algeria, History of Libya, History of Morocco, History of Tunisia, History of Sudan, History of Mauritania, History of Somalia, Djibouti and Comoros. With more than 3 million words, the book describes in detail the unique appearance and transmutation of the political, economic, social and religious culture of 10 African Arab countries, taking the historical development as a clue, and makes a comprehensive and systematic study of the history of African Arab countries. After the publication of the series, it has received a good response from the society, and Guangming Daily (theoretical edition) published a special book review, which considered that the series presents the historical evolution and development of the African Arab world in a more systematic way, and is a pioneering work of African Arab studies in China.
