On October 23rd, the International Conference on Country and Regional Studies of the Silk Road in Shaanxi Province was held in Xi’an, hosted by the Education Department of Shaanxi Provincial Government and co-organized by Northwest University and the Center for Humanity Studies of the Silk Road.
More than 100 Chinese and foreign guests attended the opening ceremony, including Ji Yingqiu, a member of the Education Working Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Cao Hui, a first-class inspector of the Office of the Shaanxi Foreign Affairs, Chang Jiang, Chairman of the University Council of Xi’an Petroleum University, Cholpon Koychumanova, Dean of the Institute of History and Social Studies of the Alabayev National University of Kyrgyzstan, and Cao Rong, Vice President of Northwest University.
In the keynote speeches session, 26 Chinese experts, including Yang Jiemian, Director of Academic Advisory Committee of Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, and 10 scholars from Central Asia and the Middle East, including Cholpon Koychumanova, Dean of the Institute of History and Social Studies of Alabayev National University of Kyrgyzstan, delivered speeches successively. In-depth exchanges and discussions were held on the topics of regional country studies and the synergistic development of the “Belt and Road”, regional country studies and the construction of a new type of think tank, the social function and practical value of regional country studies, international exchanges and cross-boundries cooperation, the theory and practice of international regional country studies, and the mechanism of exchange of regional country studies in Shaanxi, and a number of consensus were reached on the future cooperation. Prof. Lu Shanbing of the Institute of Silk Road Studies hosted the keynote speeches session.
This conference has built a new platform for the exchange and cooperation of regional country research institutions on the Silk Road, improved the internationalization level of regional country research in Shaanxi, promoted the resource integration and synergistic development of regional country research institutions in Shaanxi Province, and contributed to the high-quality development of “One Belt, One Road” and deepened the humanistic exchanges on the Silk Road in Shaanxi.
