From November 5 to 7, with the invitation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Algeria and the University of Algiers III, President Sun Qingwei led a delegation to Algeria, accompanied by the persons in charge of the Research Institute of Regional Countries and the Institute of Middle East Studies.
On Nov. 5, Sun Qingwei visited the University of Algiers III and met with the university’s president, Prof. Khalid Ruaski, vice president for international cooperation, Prof. Zakaria Hussein, and dean of the School of Politics and International Relations, Prof. Araj Sliman, and held talks on cooperation between the two universities.
Sun Qingwei introduced the history and disciplinary construction of Northwest University, and Ruaski expressed his expectation for the cooperation between the two universities. Sun Qingwei and Ruaski signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two universities, and the head of the Institute of Middle East Studies signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two institutes with Araj Slimane. Afterwards, Sun Qingwei and his delegation visited the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Algeria and called on Chargé d'affaires Zhao Pingsheng. Sun Qingwei introduced the regional country studies of the university as well as the disciplinary advantages and characteristics in Middle East studies and Algerian studies, and Zhao Pingsheng introduced the relevant work and affirmed and supported the relevant research and international cooperation of Northwest University.
On November 6, Sun Qingwei and his delegation visited Algeria's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and held talks with Rachid Hammoudi, Director of International Cooperation and University Exchanges, on the cooperation between the two sides. Sun Qingwei introduced the historical development and basic situation of our university, and elaborated on the potential of cooperation between the two sides in talent cultivation, scientific research and research center construction. Rachid Hammoudi expressed his expectations for the cooperation between the two sides, noting that he would actively support the practical cooperation between Northwest University and Algerian universities in the exchange of teachers and students, and the construction of research centers. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on the areas and mechanisms of cooperation between Northwestern University and Algerian universities, and reached a preliminary intention of cooperation.
Sun Qingwei also visited China Railway Construction International Group (CRIC) North Africa Regional Company. Dong Lin, General Manager and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of CRIC, introduced the major projects and development situation of CRIC in North Africa, and the two sides discussed school-enterprise cooperation and graduate employment matter.
This visit helps to promote the in-depth cooperation between our university and Algerian universities, implement the spirit of the China-Algeria Summit and the 10th Ministerial Meeting of the China-Algeria Cooperation Forum, and promote the construction of the discipline of regional country studies in Northwest University.
