On the evening of Nov. 8, President Xi Jinping and Italian President Mattarella met with representatives of both sides attending the General Assembly of the China-Italy Cultural Cooperation Mechanism and the Dialogue between the Presidents of Chinese and Italian Universities in Beijing. The two heads of state listened to the reports of the representatives of the two sides on the situation related to Sino-Italian cultural and university cooperation and delivered speeches. President Sun Qingwei was invited to attend the meeting.
In order to implement the consensus of the heads of state and deepen the educational exchanges and cooperation, the Dialogue between the Presidents of Chinese and Italian Universities was held at Peking University on November 9, which was organized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Universities and Scientific Research of Italy.
Sun Qingwei participated in the Dialogue between Presidents of Chinese and Italian Universities and delivered a speech in the parallel forum of “Civilization Inheritance and Innovation - Future Mission of Higher Education”. He introduced the NWU’s philosophy of university operation, the pattern of academic disciplines and specialties, and the internationalization development strategy of “basing on the surrounding area, wide-ranging and in-depth cooperation in Central Asia and Middle East, and reaching out for the globalization”. He suggested that universities are facing new opportunities and challenges in promoting civilization inheritance and innovation in the context of global informationization and digitalization, which accelerate cultural exchange and integration. He suggested further optimizing the cultivation path of intercultural communication talents, promoting the digital transformation of higher education, and enhancing the international communication capacity through the construction of university think tanks, so as to make contributions to the building of a more inclusive and harmonious world.
After the dialogue, Sun Qingwei was invited to participate in the activities related to President Mattarella's visit to Peking University.
With the theme of “Promoting Mutual Understanding of Civilizations and Cultivating Outstanding Talents”, the Dialogue will discuss the cooperation between Chinese and Italian higher education, synergistic innovation and the mode of high-level talent cultivation. Participating in this activity provides new ideas and opportunities for Northwest University and Italian universities in cultural exchanges, academic research and talent cultivation.
