From February 25th to 26th, Ata Ullah Shah, President of Karakoram International University, Pakistan, visited our university and signed a university-level cooperation agreement.
During the discussions, the two parties discussed a number of cooperation programs. Relying on the China-Pakistan Earth Science Research Center, they exchanged views on joint scientific research in the Pamir-Hindukush-Karakorum region, planned to cooperate in the fields of prevention and control of geologic hazards and protection of cultural heritage, and also explored the planning for Pakistani students to come to the university to pursue their degrees and post-doctoral training.
Prior to the meeting, Ata Ullah Shah visited the NWU’s museum and delivered a presentation on the Innovation Forum at the Department of Geology. During his visit to NWU, he also went to the School of Urban and Environmental Science and the Department of Physical Education and Research for exchanges and discussions.
Northwest University and Karakoram International University are members of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor University Consortium and the Himalayan University Consortium. This cooperation is an important initiative to respond to the “Belt and Road” initiative and build a community of destiny between China and Pakistan. Founded in 2002, Karakoram International University is a university directly under the federal government of Gilgit-Baltistan province, covering a wide range of disciplines, and is committed to cultivating talents, carrying out scientific research, and contributing to the development of the region.
