President Sun Qingwei Leads Delegation to Visit Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan

President Sun Qingwei of NWU led a delegation to visit Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan from March 10 to 16, 2025. This visit aimed to expand and deepen high-quality international cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific research, university-industry collaboration, and platform development.  

The delegation visited the Ministry of Education and the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Magtymguly University, Azadi National Institute of World Languages. Then the delegation make an official visit to Deputy Minister of Education of Turkmenistan Azat Atayev, Minister of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan Kendirbaeva Dogdurkul Sharsheevna, Chinese Ambassador to Turkmenistan QIAN Naicheng, and Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan LIU Jiangping. The delegation also attended the unveiling ceremony of the Joint Campus in Bishkek of Northwest University and Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I. Razzakov, and delivered remarks at the China (Shaanxi)-Kyrgyzstan Higher Education Forum.  

Key Engagements:  

March 10: Meeting with Deputy Minister Azat Atayev. He expressed support for inter-university collaboration between Magtymguly State University, Azadi National Institute of World Languages, and Northwest University. He also endorsed joint regional talent programs between Turkmen and Shaanxi institutions, focusing on Turkmen-Chinese translation and area studies.  

March 11: Discussions with Akhirov Arabeldi, President of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, and Rahim Khojimradov, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and History, solidified cooperation in joint archaeology, heritage conservation, academic exchanges, and museum partnerships in the morning. Later, visits to Magtymguly State University and Azadi National Institute of World Languages and discussed about the collaborations with Rector Ovezsakhedov Orazgeldy Kakabayevich and Dean Kuliyev on topics such as online teaching, Chinese teacher training, student exchange programs, and international conferences.  

March 14: Visit to Bishkek No. 95 Comprehensive Secondary School, a China-aided institution supported by Northwest Universitys affiliated high school in the morning. President SUN and Vice President WANG Shusheng of NWU witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement and donated computers and educational supplies. The delegation also observed Chinese language classes and cultural activities. Later in the afternoon, the delegation toured Zhongda Petroleum Co. Ltd of Kyrgyzstan and held discussions. Professor WANG Jianxin, Chief Scientist of the Collaborative Research Center for Archaeology of the Silk Roads, signed an infrastructure archaeological survey agreement with HUANG Qiang, Chairman of Shaanxi Coal Group’s Zhongda Petroleum Co. Ltd of Kyrgyzstan.  

March 15: Unveiling of the Joint Campus in Bishkek of Northwest University and Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I. Razzakov. President SUN signed a Faculty-Student Exchange Cooperation Agreement and an Undergraduate 2+2 Joint Program in International Economics and Trade (Cross-Border E-Commerce) with Rector Mirlan Chynybaev. In the afternoon, at the China (Shaanxi)-Kyrgyzstan Higher Education Forum, a Cooperation Framework Agreement for the Bishkek Campus and a A Cooperation Memorandum on the China-Kyrgyzstan Belt and Road Joint Laboratory for Dynamic Disaster Prevention and Control of Special Geotechnical Structures were signed.

This visit aligns with the outcomes of the China-Central Asia Summit and underscores Northwest Universitys commitment to deepening engagement in Central Asia. The launch of the joint Campus in Bishkek and practical collaborations in archaeology, geology, economics, and chemistry will accelerate the internationalization of disciplines and bolster the universitys Double First-Classinitiative.
