Xia Boyu, a renowned Chinese mountaineer and Laureus World Sports Award winner visited Chang’an Campus of NWU on March 27, delivering a lecture titled “Life Never Stops, Climbing Never Ceases: Forging the Altitude of Human Spirit with an Iron Will.” The event, attended by Over 600 faculty and student representatives attended this event.
During the talk, XIA shared his extraordinary journey of five attempts to summit Mount Zhumulangma over 43 years. In 1975, he suffered severe frostbite during an expedition, leading to the amputation of both legs. Undeterred, he continued pursuing his dream and made history on May 14, 2018, becoming the first Chinese double amputee to summit Mount Zhumulangma at age 69. His achievement earned him the 2019 Laureus World Sports Award for Best Sporting Moment, a testament to the pinnacle of human athletic spirit. XIA inspired students to embrace unwavering determination, confront challenges courageously, and relentlessly pursue their dreams. His powerful narrative resonated deeply, with the audience erupting in applause multiple times, creating an electric atmosphere.
