On April 17, the scientific-practical conference “The Role of Peace and Trust in the Study and Preservation of cultural heritage” hosted by Magtymguly Turkmen State University was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. president SUN Qingwei of NWU was invited to deliver a video speech at the opening ceremony of the conference.
In his remarks, president SUN Qingwei reviewed the cooperation between Northwest University and relevant universities and institutions in Turkmenistan. He expressed that NWU is willing to further strengthen collaboration with relevant Turkmen universities and research institutions to achieve practical outcomes, contributing to jointly writing a new chapter in cultural exchanges and mutual learning between the two countries.
The scientific-practical conference “The Role of Peace and Trust in the Study and Preservation of cultural heritage” aims to commemorate the International Year of Peace and Trust, the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, and International World Heritage Day. Nearly 1,000 experts and scholars from higher education and research institutions in over 10 countries, including Turkmenistan, China, Russia, and Turkey, as well as representatives from UNESCO, participated in the conference via online and offline methods. Three doctoral students from the Collaborative Research Centre for Archaeology of the Silk Roads of NWU attended and delivered speeches at the conference online.
In March of 2025, president SUN led a delegation on his first visit to Turkmenistan, where they met with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Magtymguly Turkmen State University, and Azadi National Institute of World Languages. The two sides reached cooperative consensus on joint archaeological research, heritage preservation, academic exchanges, and talent cultivation.
