On April 19, 2025, the launch ceremony for the Annual Report On Economic Development in Western Region of China (2025) (Blue Book of Western Region) and the Seminar on the Formation of a New Pattern of Large-scale Protection, Large-scale Opening-up and High-quality Development in the Western Region in the New Era were held at NWU’s Chang’an Campus. The event was co-hosted by the Research Institute on Economy and Development of Western China at Northwest University—a Key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education—and Social Sciences Academic Press (China), with support from the School of Economics & Management of NWU.
At the conference, Research Fellow XU Zhangyong of the Research Institute on Economy and Development of Western China at NWU released the Annual Report On Economic Development in Western Region of China (2025). The report provides a comprehensive review of the policy evolution over the 25 years since the implementation of the Western Development Strategy, systematically summarizes its remarkable achievements, and deeply analyzes the current challenges. It also focuses on quality transformation, efficiency transformation, and drivers of growth transformation, putting forward targeted key tasks and implementation paths for forming a new pattern in Western development, offering important reference for regional progress.
As a major annual output of the Key Research Bases of Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education, the China Western Economic Development Report (Blue Book of Western Region) has been published annually since 2005, with twenty consecutive editions released to date. This series of reports aggregates the wisdom of experts and scholars nationwide, maintaining long-term focus on Western development issues. Widely recognized at home and abroad, it provides solid theoretical support and in-depth interpretations of practical paths for promoting the formation of a new pattern of large-scale protection, large-scale opening-up, and high-quality development in the Western Region of China, serving as an important benchmark in the research field of contemporary Western China’s development.
