NWU's Chemistry Discipline Enters Global Top 1‰

On May 8, Clarivate Analytics released the latest ESI (Essential Science Indicators) data for May 2025. NWU has achieved a historic milestone: its Chemistry discipline has entered the global top 1‰ for the first time, ranking 56th among mainland Chinese universities. This marks NWU’s first ESI top 1‰ discipline, fulfilling the goal set at the university’s 14th Party Congress to “breakthrough into the global top 1‰ in select disciplines.”

The School of Chemistry and Materials Science, School of Chemical Engineering, School of Urban and Environmental Sciences, and School of Life Sciences are the primary contributors to NWU’s Chemistry discipline. Notably, NWU’s Chemistry discipline was listed in Shaanxi Province’s First-Round “Double First-Class” Initiative in 2022. Its entry into the global top 1‰ represents a major breakthrough in NWU’s ongoing drive to build world-class universities and disciplines.

Currently, NWU has 12 disciplines ranked among the global top 1%, including Chemistry, Geosciences, Materials Science, Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Agricultural Science, Plant & Animal Science, Environment/Ecology, Biology & Biochemistry, Social Sciences (General), and Computer Science.
