Algerian Mid-Senior Diplomat Training Delegation Visits NWU

On the morning of May 12, 2025, Counselor Ismail Khalfawi from the Office of the Secretary-General of Algerias Ministry of Foreign Affairs led a 25-member delegation of mid-senior diplomats from the Ministry to visit NWUs Algerian Studies Center.

At the meeting, NWU President SUN Qingwei introduced the universitys strong commitment to collaboration with Algerian universities and institutions. Leveraging platforms such as the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the Algerian Studies Center, the University has reached multiple cooperation agreements, with broad impact. He expressed hope that that this visit would further expand bilateral cooperation, creating a high-level, far-reaching partnership platform to enhance China-Algeria cultural exchanges and public connectivity, thereby contributing to the building of a China-Algeria community with a shared future.

Ismail Khalfawi acknowledged the academic achievements of NWUs Institute of Middle Eastern Studies and Algerian Studies Center, noting that China-Algeria relations are currently at their historical peak. He expressed expectation that Algerian scholars would establish closer ties with the Center through joint research initiatives to advance bilateral cooperation.

During the exchange session, the delegation and NWU faculty reached consensus on deepening collaboration in academic research, policy advisory, center development, talent cultivation, and faculty-student exchanges.

In October 2023, NWU established Chinas first Algerian Studies Center during a visit by Ghusli MASSOUD, Vice President of the National Peoples Assembly and leader of Algerias National Liberation Front, who led a delegation of Algerian political party officials. In November 2024, at the invitation of Algerias Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the University of Algiers 3, an NWU delegation visited Algeria, reaching numerous cooperation intentions with relevant institutions and strongly boosting the development of the Universitys area studies disciplines.
