Algerian Veterans Delegation Visits NWU

On the morning of May 28th, 2025, a delegation of Algerian veterans visited NWU and the Algeria Research Center. President SUN Qingwei met with the delegation. Accompanying the meeting were LI Jingxian, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of the CPC and Level-1 Inspector, along with heads of the Office of International Cooperation (School of International Education), the Institute of Middle Eastern Studies, and the School of Country and Region Studies.

During the discussion, President SUN Qingwei stated that the university has always placed great importance on exchanges and cooperation with countries and regions in West Asia, North Africa, and Central Asia. In recent years, leveraging platforms such as the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF), the China-Arab States Summit, and the Algeria Research Center, NWU has reached a series of cooperative consensuses with relevant Algerian universities and institutions across multiple fields, generating broad influence. He expressed hope that, through the joint efforts of all parties, research on China-Algeria revolutionary exchanges would be further deepened. This would enable the younger generations of both countries to strengthen exchanges, advance hand in hand, and jointly contribute wisdom and strength to building a higher-level China-Arab community with a shared future.

Colonel MESHERI Amar, representing the Algerian veterans, reviewed the history of exchanges between China and Algeria. He emphasized that during the crucial stages of Algeria's national liberation movement and state-building, the Chinese government and people provided invaluable economic and military assistance and dispatched medical teams. This support significantly advanced Algerias national liberation, and the Algerian people will forever cherish the profound friendship of the Chinese people.

The Algeria Research Center at Northwest University was established in October 2023 and is Chinas first academic institution dedicated specifically to Algerian studies. Since its inception, the Center has reached multiple cooperative intentions with institutions including the University of Algiers 3 and the National Center for Research and Investigation on the People's Resistance Movement and National Movement of the November 1st, 1954 Revolution. It has initiated mechanisms such as joint talent cultivation, resource sharing, and faculty/student exchanges, contributing to the development of area studies disciplines at NWU and the enhancement of its international influence.
