NWU President SUN Qingwei attended the Global Civilizations Dialogue Ministerial Meeting

From July 10 to 11, 2025, the Global Civilizations Dialogue Ministerial Meeting, jointly hosted by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, was held in Beijing. More than 600 Chinese and foreign guests from about 140 countries and regions engaged in in-depth exchanges centered around the theme of upholding the diversity of human civilizations and promoting world peace and development. SUN Qingwei, President of Northwest University, was invited to attend the opening ceremony and relevant parallel sub-forums.

LI Shulei, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department, read out the congratulatory letter from President XI Jinping at the opening ceremony. CAI Qi, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, sent a congratulatory letter to the conference. Megawati Soekarnoputri, former President of Indonesia, Nangolo Mbumba, former President of Namibia, Hatoyama Yukio, former Prime Minister of Japan, and Yves Leterme, former Prime Minister of Belgium, delivered speeches in succession. YIN Li, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, and CHEN Yiqin, state councilor, attended the opening ceremony.
On the 11th, 2025, the Global Civilizations Dialogue Ministerial Meeting held six parallel sub-forums. SUN Qingwei participated in the sub-forum on Civilization Exchanges and Mutual Learning and Building an Inclusive World. At this forum, LIU Jianchao, head of the International Department, and Senevi, Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka, delivered keynote speeches. Yves Leterme, former Prime Minister of Belgium, Essam Abdel-Aziz Sharaf, former Prime Minister of Egypt, and other political leaders, think-tank scholars, media personnel from various countries, and representatives of relevant Chinese departments attended the event. After the keynote speeches, the participating representatives engaged in group discussions and exchanges on two topics, named Promoting an Equal and Orderly Multipolar World through Civilization Dialogue and Promoting Inclusive Economic Globalization through Civilization Exchanges and Mutual Learning.
