Northwest University Holds 2025 Freshman Matriculation Ceremony

On the morning of August 31, Northwest University’s 2025 Freshman Matriculation Ceremony was held at the Gymnasium of Chang’an Campus. Attending the ceremony were Prof. Zhang Guowei, Prof. Shu Deqian, and Prof. Zhao Guochun—all Members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; all university leaders of Northwest University; Prof. Geng Guohua and Prof. Lai Shaocong, National Distinguished Teachers; Prof. Qi Xiaoguang, recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; and Dr. Li Jian, an alumnus of Northwest University, Professor at Westlake University, and winner of the Blavatnik Award for Young Scientists (Highest Honor). Also present were all freshmen of the 2025 cohort, principal officials of all university units, heads of affiliated hospitals, and faculty representatives.

On behalf of the university, President Sun Qingwei extended congratulations and a warm welcome to all freshmen, and delivered a speech titled “Strive to Identify the New Growth Point of Your Life with Heart and Effort”. Representatives of alumni, faculty, current students, and international students delivered speeches respectively. In their remarks, they expressed earnest aspirations for their upcoming academic journey, pledged to hone their skills through learning, stay true to their original aspiration in scientific research, and fulfill their mission through hard work. They vowed to contribute wisdom and strength to the next glorious chapter of Northwest University with the vitality and dedication of youth.

Subsequently, leaders in the front row of the rostrum presented university emblems to freshman representatives. All freshmen solemnly pinned the “Northwest University Emblem” to their chests. Led by the Faculty Choir and Student Choir, all teachers and students sang the Northwest University Anthem together, bringing the ceremony to a solemn and inspiring close.
