Professor Dagmar Schäfer from the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Germany was Appointed as Honorary Professor of NWU

On October 15, 2025, NWU held the Appointment Ceremony for Professor Dagmar Schäfer from the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) in Germany as an Honorary Professor of the university, coupled with the 453rd Hou Wailu Academic Lecture.

Professor Dagmar Schäfer expressed her gratitude for being appointed an Honorary Professor of NWU. She highly commended NWUs profound academic heritage, the academic caliber of its faculty, and the research potential of its students, and explicitly stated her commitment to deepening long-term cooperation and exchange between both sides.

Following the ceremony, Professor Dagmar Schäfer delivered a lecture titled History of Intelligent Evolution: The Interactive Frontier between Digital Tools and Human Thinking, presenting faculty and students with cutting-edge perspectives in the fields of digital humanities and artificial intelligence, as well as the boundaries between technological application and humanistic reflection.

Professor Dagmar Schäfer is an internationally renowned sinologist and historian of science. She is currently the Director of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) in Germany, a recipient of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize, and has also been awarded the Pfizer Award and the Joseph Levenson Prize.
