Mrs. LAM Cheng Yuet-ngor Visits NWU

On the afternoon of October 28, 2025, Mrs. LAM Cheng Yuet-ngor, the fifth-term Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), visited NWU and delivered a keynote speech titled Upholding and Improving the Practice of One Country, Two Systems in Hong Kong for faculty and students. She was accompanied by representatives from Hong Kong Chambers of Commerce in multiple provinces. ZHAO Guochun, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, some university leaders, heads of relevant departments, and over 500 faculty and student representatives from various schools attended the event.

During the exchange session before the speech, student representatives from Hong Kong at NWU reported on their study and life at the university.

In her keynote speech, Mrs. LAM reviewed the development history of Hong Kong and the historical background of One Country, Two Systems. Sharing from her own experience in office, she discussed how, during her tenure as the Chief Executive of the HKSAR and with the support of the Central Government, she led Hong Kong in overcoming numerous challenges in accordance with the Constitution of the Peoples Republic of China and The Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. She pointed out that only by fully and accurately implementing One Country, Two Systems can Hong Kong maintain long-term prosperity and stability. Currently, the practice of One Country, Two Systems has entered a new stage, and Hong Kong must continue to leverage its unique advantage of relying on the support of the motherland and connecting with the world to make greater contributions to national development and rejuvenation. She also introduced Hong Kongs efforts to build itself into a hub for gathering high-end international talent and its measures to attract talent from home and abroad, warmly welcoming NWU students to pursue further studies and development in Hong Kong.

The event was characterized by a warm atmosphere. Mrs. LAM engaged in a cordial exchange with students on topics including cultural heritage, youth development, and women's growth.

At the conclusion of the lecture, JIANG Lin, Secretary of the CPC NWU Committee, presented a souvenir to Mrs. LAM on behalf of the university. Student representatives from Hong Kong presented her with flowers as a token of their high respect and sincere gratitude.

On the day of the event, Mrs. LAM also visited the University History Museum to gain an in-depth understanding of NWUs development history and achievements.
