In 2025, Northwest University undertook a total of 23 major national science and technology projects, setting a new record after achieving its best performance in 2024.
The university made a breakthrough in national key science and technology programs, securing for the first time a project under the reformed National Key R&D Program. The Department of Geology undertook 2 projects and 9 sub-projects. The School of Physics, Department of Geology, College of Computer Science, College of Urban and Environmental Sciences, and School of Cultural Heritage were approved for 5 talent-based and key projects under the National Natural Science Foundation of China, including the Young Scientists Fund (Category B), Key Program, Key International Cooperation Research Program, and Joint Fund Key Program. The School of Electronic Information, Institute of Silk Road Studies, College of Computer Science, School of Chemical Engineering, and Department of Geology secured 2 projects and 5 sub-projects under the National Key R&D Program.
