From June 1 to 4, Zhang Qing, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee, led a delegation to visit universities in Hong Kong and Macao for talent exchange and cooperation negotiations. The delegation paid visits to seven universities including The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, City University of Hong Kong and the University of Macau, and held six talent exchange meetings and six special seminars. More than 100 doctors, postdoctoral researchers and scientific researchers engaged in earth science, chemistry and chemical engineering, materials science, computer science, artificial intelligence and other disciplines participated in the activities.
During the visit, the delegation held talks with Professor Gong Peng, Vice President of The University of Hong Kong, Academician Zhao Guochun, Director of the Joint Center for Earth and Planetary Sciences between Northwest University and the University of Hong Kong, Professor Zheng Zijian, Vice President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Professor Huang Dingfa, Executive Vice President of Hong Kong Baptist University, as well as deans and faculty members of relevant schools and departments. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on the joint building of disciplinary teams, joint training of top talents, collaborative research on scientific projects and sharing of academic resources, and reached a number of cooperation consensuses. The delegation also conducted field inspections on teaching and research platforms such as the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences of The University of Hong Kong, the Division of Integrated Systems and Design of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the State Key Laboratory of Mechanism and Quality of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City of the University of Macau. They gained a full understanding of the development of high-level talent teams, operation of disciplinary platforms and progress of scientific research, laying a solid foundation for further deepening inter-university exchanges and cooperation, promoting interdisciplinary integration and introducing and cultivating high-quality talents in a targeted manner.
