On August 26, the National Natural Science Foundation of China released the review results for proposals submitted in the 2026 general‑receipt application round. Northwest University obtained funding for 151 projects. The number of projects funded in the general‑receipt period exceeded 150 once again, with direct funding amounting to 68.83 million yuan. This achievement marks a good start for “the 15th Five-Year Plan period” and offers solid support for guiding high‑quality development of basic research at the university.
Key‑program grants went to teams led by professor Wang Ninglian (School of Urban and Environmental Sciences), professor Wang Jiading (Department of Geology) and professor Zhang Rui (School of Mathematics). For the first time, the university secured a key project under the artificial intelligence application code F06. Altogether 86 general program projects were approved, hitting an all‑time high. A total of 62 Young Scientists Fund (Category C) projects received funding. The average funding rate of Young Scientists Fund (Category C) projects among on‑campus units reached 37.42%, and the funding rate for Ziteng Scholars stood at 66.67%. One Young Scientists Fund (Category C) project was also approved by the Interdisciplinary Sciences Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. (Science and Technology Department)
