Northwest University Research Team Discovers 518‑Million‑Year‑Old “Yujingia”, Updating Understanding of the Common Ancestor Evolution of Ambulacrarians

Recently, Han Jian, He Kaiyue and other researchers from the Department of Geology at Northwest University, together with scholars at home and abroad, have identified a new ambulacrarian species, Yujingia glutenotunica, from the 518‑million‑year‑old Chengjiang biota in Yunnan. This finding offers crucial evidence for unravelling the evolutionary mystery behind the body plans of animals such as starfish and acorn worms. The research result was published online on September 16, 2026 in Current Biology, a Cell journal. (Publicity Department)
