On the morning of September 19, the opening ceremony of the Qian Qihu Excellence and Innovation Class was held in Yulin city. Qian Qihu and Zhu Hehua, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Li Haibo, secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Wuhan Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Li Shaojun, deputy director of the Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (presiding over the institute’s work); Zhang Zhifei, vice president of the university; heads of the Academic Affairs Office, the Office of Domestic Cooperation and Alumni Affairs and the Department of Geology; and the inaugural students of the class attended the ceremony.
The Qian Qihu Excellence and Innovation Class was officially established in July 2026, with 24 outstanding students selected from relevant programs in its inaugural cohort. Oriented toward major national demands such as deep-earth exploration, resource and energy security, the construction of major engineering projects and disaster prevention and mitigation, the class is committed to exploring a cultivation model for top-notch innovative talents featuring a more solid knowledge base, more extensive interdisciplinary integration and deeper research practice.
